Right Wing Leading Edge

Tonight we worked on the right wing leading edge.  The first thing we did was to make sure that the ribs were fluted and straightened.  Luckily we did a good job when we fluted all of the ribs before so it went quickly.  Next we trimed the fifth rib so that it would fit around the main spar rivets.  After that we installed the ribs in the leading edge skin using the trick that we found on the web the last time.  Once the ribs were installed we installed the leading edge on the main spar (it is a really nice fit) and fitted the stiffner between the end rib and the skin (the stiffner is used to connect the fuel tank to the leading edge).  Lastly we match drilled the stiffner, rib and leading edge skin.

Right Wing Skins

Tuesday, 07 July 2009
There's not much to say about the work this evening.  Tonight we installed and match drilled the top skins and J-stringers.  Finally we clecoed and match drilled the bottom skins.  It's a repeat of the same work on the left wing and took about 2 hours.

Right Wing Assembly

Today we began with assembling the right wing skeleton.  It wasn't as easy or as quick as we had hoped but it is finished now.  Looking back, we were much quicker then when we assembled the left wing but it didn't seem like it at the time. Once the assembly was done we hung the wing on the stand.
We then moved the large wing box to the assembly garage and unloaded all of the skins.  We took a little time out of building to disassemble and cut up the wing crate so it could be taken away.
After that we match drilled the wing walk doubler to the main skin and installed them on the wing.  Finally, we began the process of match drilling the skins to the skeleton.

The riveting of the ribs to the main spare is complete...

After picking up the skins from Darren's and emptying the shipping box it was time to break it down.

Here we go again

Happy Canada Day!  Our neighbours were treated to the sight of the left wing rolling down the street to be stored in Darren's garage.  We got a few strange looks but not as many as we expected.  The wing cart was built last Sunday.
Today we started working on the right wing.  We first straightened and fluted the ribs (most of this was done before but we needed to fine tune a few of them).  Next we drilled out the hole for the wiring conduit.  After that we assembled the skeleton and match drilled the ribs to the front and rear spars.  Finally we prepped and primed the rear spar and all the wing ribs.

The wing on it's stand ready for transport to Darren's garage.
